Osnabrücker Land is on the move: as well as applying to the many successful companies based here, this can also be taken literally. The region offers plenty of possibilities for sport lovers who want to keep fit, whether out in the countryside, on water or with the popular sports offered by the many clubs. Football and basketball fans will also enjoy the adrenalin kick they get watching VfL Osnabrück and the Artland Dragons play their matches.
Cheering on the professionals
Those who like to watch live professional football will enjoy the matches of the legendary VfL Osnabrück at the “Bremer Brücke” stadium, with its famous atmosphere during the games when everything appears in purple and white. The fans sing their songs to encourage the players and cheer them on through promotion and relegation. No matter which league VfL Osnabrück is currently playing in, the club has a long tradition and will always be a sporting figurehead in the region. Basketball with the Artland Dragons is also always a case of winning and losing. The professionals from Quakenbrück and their dragon mascot have established themselves not just in the hearts of their fans but also in Germany’s top basketball league.

Cycling and walking in the Geopark
Osnabrücker Land also scores with its unique countryside. After all, the region is part of the UNESCO Global Geopark TERRA.vita, where cyclists and walkers can discover 300 million years of earth history. 2,800 kilometres of signposted cycle paths are ideal for discovering the beauties of the Teutoburg Forest, the Wiehen Hills and the vast horizons of the Artland. Fascinating themed tours take cycling enthusiasts through the cycling paradise. Discoverers and adventurers follow the TERRA.trails to find traces of Romans and dinosaurs, fossils and erratic boulders. Trained TERRA.guides accompany the tours on request and have lots of exciting stories to tell about the region. By the way, those who prefer a slightly faster pace and take an e-bike through the nature reserve will find plenty of charging stations en route. Many footpaths wend their way through the fascinatingly varied landscape for those who would rather enjoy the natural surroundings on foot.
Fit on the green and on water
Osnabrücker Land also has plenty of “green(s)” for keen golf players. They are sure to enjoy swinging their clubs in the splendid surroundings of the golf courses in the Artland, in Ankum, at Arenshorst stately home in Bohmte, in Bissendorf and at the site where the legendary Battle of the Teutoburg Forest took place at Kalkriese. Handicaps won’t be an issue for young and old golf players at the Swingolf courses in Quakenbrück and Glandorf.
The region also offers many possibilities for water sport enthusiasts. Alfsee lake with its 220 hectares has a water ski facility and is also ideal for swimming. Canoeing on the river Hase is a rather different way of discovering the region. Whether on land or water, on foot or on a bike: the region has plenty of opportunities to keep sport enthusiasts moving.
